The 7 Days Machame Route Kilimanjaro Trekking, also known as the “Whiskey Route,” is one of the most popular and scenic trails to climb Mount Kilimanjaro (5,895m). This 7-day version allows more time for acclimatization, giving trekkers a higher summit success rate. You will pass through lush rainforest, moorlands, alpine desert, and finally reach the icy summit zone at Uhuru Peak.
Begin at Machame Gate and trek through lush rainforest with streams, ferns, and mossy trees until you reach Machame Camp. Duration: 6–7 hours.
Ascend through moorland valleys and rocky ridges. Arrive at the wide Shira Plateau with stunning mountain views. Duration: 4–6 hours.
Climb gradually to Lava Tower for acclimatization, then descend to Barranco Valley. This “climb high, sleep low” strategy prepares you for higher altitude. Duration: 6–7 hours.
Scale the famous Barranco Wall, then continue on alpine ridges overlooking glaciers until you reach Karanga Camp. Duration: 4–5 hours.
Cross rocky high desert terrain and reach Barafu Camp, the base for the summit attempt. Rest and prepare for the midnight climb. Duration: 3–4 hours.
Begin your summit push around midnight. Reach Stella Point and Uhuru Peak for sunrise over Africa. Descend via Barafu to Mweka Camp. Duration: 12–14 hours.
Final descent through rainforest to Mweka Gate. Collect summit certificates and bid farewell to your trekking crew. Duration: 3–4 hours.
